About the Project
Zero Waste Food bridges the gap between surplus food and hungry communities in real time. The platform connects restaurants, caterers, and households that have excess food with NGOs and individuals who need it — measured in minutes, not days.
The core insight is that food waste and food insecurity exist in the same city at the same time. The platform solves the coordination problem: making it easier to donate a surplus meal than to throw it away.
Built for Lahore, the platform uses real-time matching to connect food donors with the nearest verified recipient organizations. Donors post available food, recipients claim it, and the handoff is tracked end to end — with every rescued meal logged toward the city's zero-waste goal.
The design prioritises speed and simplicity: a restaurant can post a surplus in under two minutes, and a recipient can confirm a pickup without leaving the app.
